I learned to make jewelry while I worked in a high-end bead store shortly after college. I discovered that I had a flair for design, and after being asked to redesign and repair numerous friends' old necklaces and bracelets, I decided to branch out and start doing craft shows and house parties. So far, so good: my beaded jewelry allows me to work at home and care for my toddler daughter (she's the reason I began making children's jewelry).
I teach pearl knotting and I also do jewelry making parties for birthdays, Girl Scout troops, bridal parties, girls' night in, and anyone who just wants to have fun and create a new piece of jewelry (with my help, of course).
For parties and classes, there is a per person fee that varies depending on what type of item the participants would like to make. Private instruction begins at $25 per person, two student minimum, and classes are usually one hour and 45 minutes long. Rate is discounted for larger groups, up to ten students.
For jewelry making parties, where one-on-one instruction isn't really necessary, rates begin at $14 per person, four person minimum, maximum twenty people.
Bridal jewelry parties are perfect for brides who either know what they want to wear and cannot find it elsewhere, or who want to create a unique bonding experience for their bridesmaids while simeltaneously helping them create their own keepsake of the event. All of my bridal jewelry parties are scheduled through Bridal Treasures in Butler, PA. Bridal jewelry parties are $14 per person, plus materials, four person minimum. Please schedule a few weeks in advance so that I will be able to order all necessary items.
I will be teaching the following classes at Jo Ann Fabrics in Cranberry Township, PA, this winter and spring:
- Teen Crafting 102: Hair accessories. Make a flower & feather headband, a jeweled headband, and a hair clip. 1:00-3:00 P.M. Sunday 17 January and Sunday 7 February 2010.
